Neatherlin Homes > About Neatherlin Homes > 11-Step Building Process

Here is the 11-Step Building Process
that leads to your new home:

Pre-Construction
These steps are your responsibility, with our help every step of the way.

1. Purchase a lot.
(Or choose a lot and our affiliate will help with financing of the land and the home.)

2. Sign a contract with us.
We can handle your home financing in-house if you own your land free and clear.

3. Prepare the building site, including land clearing and grading, and staking out the location where the home will be built. We recommend meeting with your construction manager before you begin site preparation.

Construction
We handle the actual construction of your home.

4. Permitting.
We’ll take care of final details, such as building permits and scheduling a pre-construction meeting.

5. Lay the foundation.
The first part of your new home will be laying the foundation. This step is discussed in detail when you choose the options for your home.

6. Construct the frame of your new home.
At this point, we conduct the framing inspection and walk-through, an important meeting with your Neatherlin Homes construction supervisor to ensure everything is as you asked for it, and all your questions are answered.

7. Add the roof, siding, windows, and doors.
At this point, if you bought a shell home, it is ready to be tendered — or turned over — to its owner.

Finishing Work
Neatherlin Homes will complete steps 8 to 10, if the homeowner chooses to purchase these options, or you can save money by completing the finishing steps yourself.

8. Install wire and pipe for electricity and plumbing. Install the wires and pipes that connect your electricity and plumbing, known as “rough” electric and plumbing.

9. Hang drywall, insulation, install baseboards and interior doors and trim.

10. Install flooring, fixtures and appliances and paint interior.

The House is Yours
11. Once your home is completed according to your contract, we tender the home to you.

A word on subcontractors
Like most homebuilders, Neatherlin Homes uses qualified subcontractors to build your home. They are not employees of Neatherlin Homes, which is an advantage because it saves you money. But they — and we, in turn — ensure they will do quality work, and do it on time.
